Description
Wall-mounted bookcases were common in interiors in the first half of the 20th century. Jean Prouvé also designed a number of wall shelves, such as the Rayonnage Mural, originally designed in 1936 for the École nationale professionnelle de la ville de Metz. Reissued by Vitra, Rayonnage Mural is a simple, elegant shelf featuring two vertical wall brackets whose aerodynamic shape is reminiscent of the rudder of a plane or ship. A recurring feature of Prouvé’s creations, these metal supports feature precision-crafted horizontal slots into which the solid wood shelves are inserted. Together, these two high-contrast materials create a practical shelf with the sculptural qualities of an aesthetic object. Available in a range of finishes, this wall-mounted shelf will look great in any living room, bedroom or kitchen.
