The petit fauteuil Costes marked the beginning of the partnership between internationally renowned French designer Philippe Starck and Italian publisher Driade. Created in 1984, theCostes armchair marks the consecration of a designer who was previously unknown in Italy. Costes is an icon of design that was designed for the now defunct café parisien Costes. The Costes armchair owes its timeless success to the absoluteness of its forms: a wraparound wooden frame with three steeply angled tubular steel legs. The shell of the Costes armchair is curved plywood with a mahogany, grey oak, natural ebony or bamboo finish. The padding is polyurethane foam with a black or light leather cover.
