The Wishbone Armchair CH24 is a small, light and sculptural armchair that can be used as a dining chair as well as a lounge chair for relaxing. The CH24 chair is the most famous and best-selling chair by Danish designer Hans J.Wegner. Designed in 1949 by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son, this armchair is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. A sign of its success, Carl Hansen has been producing the Wishbone CH24 chair for over half a century without interruption. The backrest bar is steam bended for optimum freedom of movement and comfort. Wegner chose to merge the backrest and armrest into a single piece. To stabilise the steam-curved top and provide comfortable support for the back, the designer developed the chair’s characteristic Y-shaped support. Requiring over 100 production processes, the seat is entirely handwoven using 120m of paper rope for strength assured for a duration of over 50 years. Beautiful from every angle, the Chair Wishbone CH24-Carl Hansen, belongs to the « Chinese armchairs » series, inspired to Wegner by portraits of Danish merchants sitting on Ming chairs. Over time, the Wishbone CH24 chair has become an iconic figure in Danish design.
