The Cone Chair, designed in 1958 by Verner Panton and produced by Vitra, represents one of the earliest expressions of the Danish designer’s radical and visionary style. At the end of the 1950s, its bold aesthetic transformed the concept of seating and helped redefine the language of modern furniture design. The Cone Chair is distinguished by its sculptural silhouette shaped like a funnel or inverted cone, resting on a slender four star steel base. The extension of the cone at the back forms a semi circular backrest, while the flat central section accommodates a comfortable seat cushion. Fully upholstered in fabric, the chair features generous padding and a backrest that can also function as an armrest depending on the seating position, providing both comfort and freedom of movement. Thanks to a wide range of fabrics and colors, the Cone Chair can be configured to suit many different environments, including public and semi public spaces. Today, the Cone Chair is still produced using traditional craftsmanship faithful to Verner Panton’s original design, maintaining the quality and innovative spirit that have made it a timeless icon of design edited by Vitra.
